Total depravity of man: where the concept collapses

During the night of April 4, 1993, around 10:45 p.m., the

I thought: “The concept of ‘the total depravity of

man ‘is not based on Scripture. “

Although I have not had a formal religious training, I have

studied the Word of God for more than 50 years. I have

I examined teaching based on what the Bible says from before I

he was ten years old.

They taught me that every Christian is a priest and is supposed to

to “rightly divide the Word of truth.”

For more than fifteen years, I have been reading the Bible.

at a rate of approximately 1 page per day from the Old

Testament and a page from the New Testament. I go through

the Old Testament once every 24 months and through the New

Will every 7 months. I’m getting more and more sure

what is in the Bible and what is not in the Bible.

Jesus said, “You must be born again.” The word says

you become a child of God by believing in the name of Jesus.

What is not said in the Scriptures is that all in the Old

Testament only did wrong. Scripture says that some

good and some did bad.

Eli, the priest, was good but he did bad.

The psalmist said what Paul quoted when he said “everyone has

he sinned and is destitute of the glory of God. “

There is a measure of the wickedness of sin as clearly as a

“abomination” was worse than “transgression.”

“What does the Scripture say? Abraham believed

God, and it was accounted for justice. ” [Romans

4:3]

This belief was an act of faith. It was the sacrifices to God

by others also acts of faith and, therefore, counts for

Justice?

God held man responsible for his actions after the fall.

as much as before the fall.

When it is said that man is totally depraved, it implies that

Man is not responsible for his actions since only Adam was

responsable. I cannot accept this conclusion. I do not see

in the scriptures.

Scripture says in Romans 3:23 that “all have sinned

and fall short of the glory of God. “This is a New Testament

conclusion of Romans 3: 10-18 that begins: “As is

written: There is no fair. “This is really the heart

of the teaching of the total depravity of man and is portrayed

as a New Testament doctrine.

The phrase, “As it is written,” clearly casts the truth in

the Old Testament as that is where it is written. The Romans

The quote is from the Psalms which was written by David, the first of

the many kings described in the books of I Kings, II Kings, I

Chronicles and II Chronicles.

Throughout Kings and Chronicles, statements about the new

king either “did evil in the eyes of the Lord” or “did what

was right in the eyes of the Lord. “Sometimes, from those who

did well, the exception was given, “but not with a perfect

heart “.

Those who teach “total depravity” draw the line as to who

enters and excludes himself very close to his own teaching

saying Old Testament saints come in “looking

forward to Jesus Christ on the cross. “This does not measure

down to Scripture as the sacrifice of Jesus for the sins of the

The world is described as a “mystery” that no one knew until

after Jesus was crucified and resurrected.

How about what the New Testament says? Jesus said that:

“Because he who is not against us, on our part.”

[Mark 9:40]

The apostle John says:

“Anyone who confesses that Jesus is the Son of

God, God dwells in him, and he in God. ” [1 John

4:15]

John the Baptist taught repentance. This is a vital part of

Teaching of the New Testament just as it was in the Old Testament.

The New Testament clearly defines the line with: “To whom

Worship; God through Jesus Christ or some other god? “.

it’s just as easy in the New Testament as it is in the Old

Testament to stop following the true God to follow some

false god.

“If my people, who are called by my name,

humble himself, pray, seek my face and turn from

their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, and I will do

forgive their sin, and they will heal their land. ” [2 Chronicles

7:14]

Anyone claiming to be a Christian is included in the “call

by my name. “They may or may not need more or less

forgiveness of their sins based on how they are living.

We like to think that everything is sin and that we all need

sorry every day. Maybe there is some truth in that

but we really need to keep our definitions based on Scripture.

Let’s deal with the sins spoken of in the Scriptures.

Let’s also talk about obstacles. If someone tells you

you need to do this or that or you don’t have to do this or that,

and these elements are not clearly defined in the scriptures, so

those things become stumbling blocks that hinder rather than

help. We need to take steps and not stumble

blocks. Let’s deal with what is important and biblical.

The concept of “total depravity” is not a necessary doctrine

for the truth of “original sin”. Saying it constitutes a

“extreme” doctrinal position.
