A golf tip from the sport of curling

I found a great golf tip when I learned a new sport for me: curling.

Curling is similar to golf in many ways.

Both are games that originated in Scotland several hundred years ago.

Both are no-evil games and driven by powerful rules of etiquette, where being polite is the foundation of the game.

That’s why I like them both, and when I found out that England’s only purpose-built curling rink was a 40-minute drive from me, I was there like a shot.

Another thing that both games have in common is the small margin between getting exactly the result you want and not even close.

As I’ve developed my technique of bringing the 42 pound granite to the target 40 meters down on the ice, I’ve learned that the power of your shot doesn’t come from arm swing, it actually comes from leg thrust.

You use your arm to get direction, but if you try to use your arm to judge force, you won’t be consistent.

It is this point that you can transfer as a golf tip to remove a lot of shots from your score.

Do not try to judge the distance of your putt by your follow through, this will result in inconsistencies.

When you practice, train yourself to use your backswing to judge your distance.

When you backswing say 3 inches and follow 3 inches, you’ll soon be able to predict how far your putt will go.

Do the same for a 4-inch backswing and so on, so that eventually, when you’re on the green and have judged how far you need to putt, you can switch to your pre-programmed backswing.

This will get the length of your putts just where you want them, even on pressure shots, so you can just focus on the line.

Even if this does nothing more than reduce your 3 putts, you will see the benefits on your scorecard.

When you use this golf hack and reap the rewards, thank the sport of curling!
