April Fool’s Day Activities

Although school is a place to learn, there is nothing wrong with having fun once in a while. April Fool’s Day is definitely a time of year when you can have more fun than usual. Here are some harmless fun pranks that your young students will enjoy.

The following April Fool’s Day project is one you’ll definitely want to consider.

First, choose a topic that you have been teaching and ask several students to pretend to write a long article on the topic.

From there, tell these students to bring several pages to class on the day of the joke. Of course, they don’t need to actually write the paper, just make other students think they did it.

When you arrive to class on April Fool’s Day morning, ask students to turn in their work. This is when the real fun begins. Students who weren’t in on the prank will worry and wonder what they’re missing. After the tension builds, you and the students who knew about the project can jump up and yell “April Fools!”

Of course, there are other April Fool’s Day jokes that you can get in on. No one really knows when this day started, but every year millions and millions of people participate.

One of the most common April Fool’s Day projects is to give your students a story to fool other people. Here’s the story you can use: Claim that April Fool’s Day was founded in the 16th century when the Gregorian calendar took over. Those who forgot to make the change were celebrating the New Year on the wrong date, which caused them to be mocked.

Students can use this prank on their siblings, parents, or anyone else in their life. When the person begins to say “that’s interesting”, the student can yell “April Fool’s!” It works every time.

Lastly, don’t forget about this April Fool’s Day project: have your students make a craft that falls apart when their parents look at it. A greeting card with poor quality workmanship will work perfectly here.

Have your students fold a piece of paper in half to make the “shape” for a greeting card. From there, ask them to cut two shorter sheets of paper.

Third, have your students decorate the card as they always would.

Next, the student will not place one of the shorter pieces in the middle so that the card just barely opens once the glue is dry.

When the parent opens the card, they will hear the paper tear, thinking they did it themselves. Child can yell “April Fools” for laugh-out-loud laughter!
