Bane’s Coat from Dark Knight Rises

The hype started after the latest release of the Dark Knight Rises trailer. The movie looks amazing, the special effects are amazing (especially the football scene) and Bane’s (Tom Hardy) coat seems like everyone wants one. We have dug up some dirt in the last few days and will let you know exactly what kind of coat it is and where you can get one.

What kind of coat is Bane wearing in Dark Knight Rises?

Bane’s coat was inspired by a World War II Swedish Army officer coat known as the M1909 field coat.

The Swedes are responsible for this coat; the Swedish army of the late 1930s to be more specific. Bane’s coat was inspired by a Swedish army officer coat known as the M1909 field coat; although some modifications were made for the Tom Hardy character.

This is the same coat that Bruce Willis wore in 12 Monkeys, and the same coat that Ed Harris wore in Enemy at the Gates. It’s actually a very popular coat in Hollywood and it seems to appear on the big screen from time to time. It is a very heavy, durable and warm coat. No wonder it was used by so many snipers in WWII.

What is Bane’s coat type called and where can I buy it?

You’re wondering, “what do you call these types of coats?” The M1909 Swedish field coat that Bane wore in the movie Dark Knight Rises is more commonly known as a shearling coat.

Shearling is sheepskin or lambskin that has undergone a limited cutting process to obtain a uniform depth of wool fibers for a uniform look and feel.

The classic M1909 field coat is very hard to come by, for now. But with the release of the Dark Knight Rises movie, we’re sure to see more of these manufactured coats. Since the movie is slated for a summer 2012 release, we’ll likely see a lot of these coats in the winter of next year.

There are many similar designs at the moment. Some with zippers, others with different colors, different types of buttons, different types of leathers / materials and pockets. If you want to be known as one of the first to start wearing this type of coat and you would like to get something that is not as over the top as the following.

There are many similar coats available now and they all have the similar characteristics of sheepskin collar linings. There are some great alternatives to the M1909 field coat. The shearling coat that most closely resembles Bane’s coat will be the one everyone will buy. If you have no problem wearing what everyone else is wearing, wait – December 2012 will offer styles more similar to the M1909.
