Sometimes I hear from people who realize that certain criteria can make it more likely that they will conceive a girl or a boy. People often wonder if their clothes can have any effect on this process. And one of the habits that they ask me the most is the frequency of sexual intercourse. People often wonder if having sex regularly or more increases the chances of having a baby girl or a boy.

A concern you might hear in this situation is something like, “I really want a girl. And one of my friends told me that if you have regular sex every day when you think you’re ovulating, then this makes you happier.” He probably has a girl. Is this true? My husband travels for his work and having sex every day is going to be a big challenge. But if this statement is true, then I guess I could make this happen. It is? Is it really accurate to say that regular sex makes a girl more likely?

Well, I can’t see the future, but I can tell you that, in my opinion, what really matters is not the frequency of sex. It’s about whether or not you’re having sex at the optimal time for the gender you’re looking for.

Because you are more likely to have a girl baby if you have sex before you ovulate. And you’re more likely to have a baby boy if you have sex after you ovulate. And this is true regardless of whether you have sex every day or once a week. Now, with that being said, if you have regular sex then you are more likely to hit a day that is optimal for you. But, you’re also more likely to hit a day that gives you the opposite result you’re looking for, as this happens every day.

Just as an example, let’s say this woman was going to ovulate on a Monday. Suppose she was going to have regular intercourse starting on the Friday before she suspected ovulation was approaching. So let’s say she had sex every day until Wednesday. In a perfect world, the optimal days for a girl would be until Sunday night. But you really wouldn’t want to have sex after Sunday because by Monday you’re more likely to have a baby since ovulation has already occurred. But if she just has regular intercourse regardless of when she’s actually ovulating, then she’s leaving it up to chance which session of intercourse might result in a pregnancy.

In the above scenario, if she had been lucky enough to conceive during the first few attempts, it would have been more likely a girl. But if she took multiple tries and passed on Monday, then getting a boy is the most likely scenario. So it’s not really the amount of sex that’s important. It is the time of it. It’s better to manually choose the best day and then stop rather than just having sex regardless of when she might be ovulating.
