DuroDesign – Cork Flooring Review

This article is a review of DuroDesign’s cork flooring product. Our goal is to educate you about the DuroDesign product and help you decide if this is the right cork flooring for you. Since there are quite a few manufacturers of cork-based flooring, it’s generally a good idea to learn about them. Feel free to check out our other reviews on other manufacturers and vendors. If you would like more information on how to install it in your home or would like to get a quote, follow the links at the end of this review.

First of all, you should know that DuroDesign manufactures two different flooring products made from cork. One is glued cork tiles and the other is floating cork flooring (click-together system). They both come in six different patterns and 54 different colors. You can install your cork tiles glued onto a plywood or concrete subfloor. Floating cork planks can be installed over the same type of subfloor and even over your existing flooring. Floating floor planks tend to be more geared towards the DIY type, however many contractors install this flooring product.

They claim to use only the best quality pigments to achieve sharp, clear colors in order to preserve their beautiful natural texture. The finish they use is MP765 polyurethane finishing system (glued tiles only) to give them more durability, abrasion resistance and resilience to make a cork flooring product last a lifetime.

They offer a guarantee on both of these cork-based flooring products. It is covered by a 25-year structural warranty and a 5-year renewable finish warranty. However, we recommend that you speak with your dealer, distributor or contractor for more precise details about your warranty. From the consumers we’ve talked to, there seem to be some issues behind the warranty, but for the most part they stick to it. Be sure to follow all coating requirements to meet your share of the maintenance and care requirements.

You can achieve LEED® certification by installing any of these cork flooring products, including;

  • LEED® MR 4.1 and 4.2 Credit: Recycled Content
  • LEED® MR Credit 6: Rapidly Renewable Materials
  • LEED® EQ Credit 4: Low-Emitting Materials

We rate both products a 4.5 out of 5, the only problem we have is the limited availability of patterns and colors.
