Example of a letter of introduction from a direct graduate to a potential employer

It can be difficult for a recent graduate to know what to include in an exploratory letter to a potential employer. This is an example to show how a cover letter from a graduate directly to a potential employer should look like. In this case, the fictitious organization ‘Yorkshire Investments Limited’ is known to employ insurance telesales and telemarketing operators.

“Dear Mr. Abcdef,

With an outgoing personality, plus a total of 4 months holiday sales experience and my recently obtained degree, I am confident I am a strong candidate for an Insurance Telesales Operator role with Yorkshire Investments Limited.

I recently graduated from the University of Leicester with a degree in English and Marketing, where I was President of both the Business Leaders of Tomorrow group and the University Marketing Society.

Although recently graduated, I do not consider myself typical. I attended university in Cheshire and Manchester and supported myself by working in local radio advertising sales positions, magazine subscription sales and bar work. All of these jobs have improved my sales and interpersonal skills and completed my formal education.

I was told that I have the maturity, skills and abilities to establish a career in insurance sales with Yorkshire Investments and that living close to home in Yorkshire would be a real added bonus.

I will be available for an interview any time this month, and would really appreciate the opportunity to discuss this position with you. If you will allow me, I will follow this letter with a brief phone call to see if you would agree to make an appointment to meet.

Yours sincerely,

Michelle Barnes”

You’ll notice that this letter of introduction from a graduate to a potential employer isn’t too pushy, but it does highlight all the qualities that would make you a good candidate. Requesting a meeting is essential as the credibility of your sales ability would be destroyed if you did not.
