Fish abundance:
Los Cabos is not just home to Marlin; a host of other fish inhabit the surrounding waters. If you are looking for that prize winning catch of Mahi Mahi, Tuna or Snapper; You are in the right place. However, the abundance of a certain species of fish depends on the season. Although marlin can be fished year-round, the best time to fish for striped marlin is winter, blue and black marlin is summer and fall. In the summer, you are more likely to find tuna, sailfish, dorado, and wahoo. Striped marlin and jack mackerel are more abundant in winter and spring.
Best fishing areas:
There are many places around the Cabo San Lucas coast that are ideal for fishing.
Most of the best fishing areas are within 40 miles of the harbor. There is also a place that is two miles from the old lighthouse near a 600 foot ledge. The Tinaje Trough is a deep underwater canyon on the Pacific side of the cape, where you can find many different species of fish. Located between the San Jaime Bank (the deepest point of the Tinaje Channel) and the Golden Gate Bank (12 miles to the north) is the path of the submarine currents. This is the best place to fish in Cabo. These warm currents carry huge numbers of Skipjack Tuna, Yellowfin Tuna, and Blue Marlin.

Many types of charter flights are offered; you can find everything from 21-foot center consoles to luxury yachts over 100 feet. Some of these charters offer all-inclusive packages. Depending on how much money you want to spend, how many people will be traveling with you and how long you want to go; there are many options to meet your needs. The largest tournament held in Cabo is the Bisbee Black and Blue Marlin Tournament. The Western Outdoor News Mercury Tuna Jackpot tournament is scheduled for early November. The summer months bring the Rolex/IGFA Offshore Championships in May, the Lucas Billfish Challenge in June and the Mercury Light Line World Fly Fishing Championships in July.
