How to Make a Natural Electrolyte Mix

Electrolytes are an important part of staying hydrated, especially in times of illness or during exercise. There are some simple ways to prepare it, one way is by combining some fruit juices, water, and salt. Coconut water is a great source of natural electrolytes and is also relatively inexpensive. I prefer natural homemade electrolytes (either homemade or purchased) to something like Powerade or Gatorade with their dyes, preservatives, and sugar.

I found this recipe on a website full of information for those with mthfr (methylation) defects. The electrolyte mix requires 6 components, concentrated fruit juice, water, bioplasm cell salts, electrolyte concentrate, vitamin C powder, and d-ribose. I generally make a gallon that can last 4-8 days, depending on how much you drink per day. I usually drink about 2-4 cups, I usually use 2 cups and put it in my daily protein shake / meal that I start my day with. By using all natural and homeopathic ingredients, you don’t have to worry about unnecessary chemicals or spike in blood sugar. It will also hydrate and energize you more effectively than conventional electrolyte drinks or mixes.

To make the electrolyte mix, combine a can / container of fruit juice concentrate, enough water to make one gallon, 4 teaspoons of bioplasma cell salts, 2-3 teaspoons (sometimes tablespoons depending on brand) of concentrate of electrolytes, 5-10 teaspoons of vitamin C powder, and about 10 tablespoons of d-ribose. The ingredients will need time to dissolve and mix to form the electrolyte mixture. The electrolyte mix can be drunk during exercise, during the day, and even while taking an Epsom salt bath or in a sauna. Knowing how to make a natural electrolyte mix is important for your health, especially if you are deciding to follow a healthy diet like the paleo diet.

A little off topic, but recently I even came across some articles and excerpts from a book saying that low sodium and electrolyte levels can cause sugar and carb cravings. By drinking a well-prepared electrolyte drink, you can minimize sugar and carbohydrate cravings and better balance your blood sugar. Branched-chain amino acids can also help ease carb cravings, but I haven’t found much research to show that that may be the case. When selecting ingredients, be sure to look for all natural versions with no added fillers. To find the best and cheapest ingredient option, I usually use amazon or iherb.
