How to use Twitter – Tip

So you’re just learning how to use Twitter and you might need some tweeting ideas, right? You don’t have to tweet that you’re eating a bagel or about to water the plant and you don’t have to tweet links to your business all day. In order to gain followers who benefit from you and you benefit from them, you need to tweet content.

Sure you can put your Twitter on automatic, but what will that do? It takes YOU out of the equation and just keeps people from paying attention or responding to your tweets, and the goal of Twitter is conversation, not automation. You want to generate and stimulate conversation with your followers and also with the people you follow. So, have you been running out of ideas on what to tweet or are you just trying to get started? Here are some quick ideas for you:

– Blogs or websites that have lists. Lists are extremely popular with people (you’re reading one now!) who love quick how-tos for fixing something in their lives. So find a reputable blog or website and tweet with a good introduction. For example: Top 10 Comedy Movies, 7 Ways to Use Vinegar to Clean Carpets.

– Quotes are used A LOT. People love short, funny, and inspirational quotes. I’ve seen them go viral. The more you can use the #quotes hashtag to get even more attention

– News, images and videos are best used with a great headline. However, it would not publish news all the time, but videos or images associated with related news would provide more content than direct news from CNN.

– Bookmarked websites. I have a handful of sites that I visit every day. I select the best articles of the day and tweet them. But I only tweeted them once. Also, tweeting just the articles or blog posts is much better than tweeting the whole site. This way, your followers don’t have to choose what’s interesting. You are showing them directly.

– Find the most popular hashtags or trends of the day directly on the Twitter page. Tweet about it and join the conversation!

– Affairs. Why don’t you ask your followers a few questions and spark some quick conversations? You don’t want to “chat” per say, but you can question the hive mind of your followers. If you want to chat with someone, DM them or get another Twitter account strictly for that. You may also find other people joining the conversation and you’ll never know… maybe you’ll develop your own hashtag!

– Everyday life. Don’t be afraid to tweet your everyday life, but don’t make it a habit. If you want to discuss what you have done during the day…at least include a small picture to make it more interesting.

These Twitter ideas are not intended for you looking to get RT or gain popularity. That should come naturally and not forced. So take your time, have some fun, and start tweeting!
