Information on the history of Miami

I love Miami; Like many people, I am attracted to the sun, the sea, the beach and the general fun that comes from Miami. I have written the following article to tell you about the other Miami sites and I hope you find it informative.

10,000 BC

Archaeologists have informed us that although they left very little evidence of their existence, there were people living in Miami as early as 10,000 BC; The Tequesta Indians came to South Florida. They survived as hunter-gatherers in the local area which also included what we call Miami and other places like the Everglades and the Keys.

Now a big jump to 1513AD

In 1513 is when the first Europeans landed in Florida; Juan Ponce de León. He comes to Florida to search for the fountain of youth. Although he did not find the fountain of youth, he did find the Gulf Stream.

1565 AD

The city of San Agustín was founded by Pedro Menéndez de Avilés who landed in Florida who later became the first European to remain on a continent in what is now the United States.

1783

The United States gains independence in the Treaty of Paris from the British. Florida is then vacated and returned to Spain.

1821

Florida is acquired from the Spanish by the US Now there is tension in this area as a large number of white and Native American immigrants settle in this area. Many white immigrants take in black slave laborers.

1835-1842

Second Seminole War where black allies fight the US, resulting in the exile of many tribes to the west.

1845

Florida is now the 27th state in the USA. Although there are now many people living in America, about half are ointments.

1914

Miami’s first hotel, the WJ Brown Hotel, opens, meaning this area is considered the “cool” place to hang out.
