Innovation: thinking outside the box and the four types of innovation

Why do we love new gadgets? Why did the Renaissance mark as the period when history, science, philosophy, and religion have become so prominent that the ideologies used in this period are still used to this day? Why do we recognize those people who sought change and others who have settled in mediocrity are ignored? Why?

Simple. Because they shed new light on what everyone else thought was final and latent.

They changed things radically and created improvements that are far beyond the limits of what is currently thought.

A fundamental aspect of innovation is the ability to think out of the box. In this way, you will find new ways to discover what was previously discovered. To create new things from the old. To extract new ideas from the classics. When we say innovation, it is not just about the ability to create solutions from scratch, but to create them from seemingly old things, only creativity was applied to them.

The box is the normal way of dealing with things. It’s what everyone does because it’s the common notion. It’s what most people don’t want to do but have no choice but to let go. These are said to be the assumptions that the majority make. Therefore, the only best way to deal with this assumption is to oppose it. However, keep in mind that once you do, you need to be firm with what you have set out to do. Going beyond the box often means scrutiny, ridicule, and disbelief on the part of other people. And these same things make an innovator.

You can call innovation something close to being wild, crazy, and extremely silly. But these fellows here are not suggesting that they often fail. In fact, many of the craziest ideas helped expand one or two products to market.

Take, for example, some of the greatest achievements that are based on crazy innovations. Be aware that some people would enthusiastically tell you that these are products of sheer luck or simply the natural consequences of interwoven events. They may come from unexpected events, but the fact that the people who started the innovations risked using change for seemingly inappropriate things is something to be admired.

Ford realized the potential of the automobile market through the failure of Edsel. Hence the birth of the Mustang. Another good example is the way things are anticipated. Everyone knew in the 1970s that the population would skyrocket and that people would go after prioritizing education in the near future. But only Japan took steps to create new technologies to support these future changes. Therefore, they created robots to complement the needs. We can see things differently now because we are already in the real situation as seen before, but during those days, this idea of creating robots is something that was often discarded, if not laughed at.

While innovation has a general concept surrounding it, it still has several problems to solve through its many types.

One type of innovation is process innovation. It is about generating benefits by changing some of the already established processes involved.

Product innovation, on the other hand, is the type that solves innovation by creating new products from old ideas or new products from new ideas, depending on how the initiator deals with the condition. This is true with Motorola RZAR mobile phones, which not only brought new phone models to the market, but also created a new niche.

Also, positioning innovation is the kind that changes the brand of a certain product through change.

Lastly, the innovation paradigm is the kind that radically changes things through catering needs by turning something into something else that is more feasible on the market.
