Let me tell you up front that the Mayo 5 Day Diet is not a weight loss plan based on eating only mayonnaise for five days in a row!
In fact, there is no mayonnaise on this diet. It is called the Mayo Diet because it was supposedly created in a health institution with the name “Mayo”. That makes sense because a diet based on eating mayonnaise definitely wouldn’t work very well!
So what is this diet all about? Well, this diet is actually a variation on the popular grapefruit diets.

Grapefruits, meats, eggs, non-starchy vegetables, nuts, cheese, and tomatoes.
What you can not eat:
Cereals (rice, bread, pasta), starchy vegetables (peas, potatoes), fruits (of course, grapefruit is an exception).

So will this diet do wonders for you? Well let’s be real here, it only lasts five days. Do you really think you will lose all the weight you need in just five days?
Even if you lose ten pounds in five days, do you think it will stay that way once you return to your normal lifestyle diet? I think you know the answer to that based on your previous experiences with diets.
If you need to lose weight for an event in five days (like a wedding), you may want to try this diet. Just be prepared to gain all the weight back in a few days.
On the other hand, if you want to lose weight… and keep it off forever… you should definitely skip the 5 Days of May Diet.
