However, there are also many other factions that you can play as. This includes the Germans, the Gauls, the British, the Macedonians and the Greeks. Getting started will be a bit quicker than other factions, because you will be controlling a very lucrative trade route around the Mediterranean that will have you jumping dinars by leaps and bounds. Your first goal should be to take over at least two or three nearby cities, preferably on the ocean, as these will be more lucrative.
Once you do that, fortify your cities with the proper Greek soldiers and armies and focus on making trade deals with other cultures. This won’t last long before the powerful Brutii faction of the Romans come and try to take over your cities. At this point you should have a good financial base and be able to create many units of Spartans, Greek soldiers and specialized cavalry. When the Romans arrive, focus on repelling instead of falling back and gaining ground. You can do it on the eastern front.
Playing as the Greeks is also fun because of the types of troops you can control. They have a bunch of lance-wielding foot soldiers that are very effective against cavalry and foot soldiers alike. His armor and breastplates are minimal. They have greaves, a nice round white or gold shield, a long spear, and quality Greek helmets. You can zoom down on the battlefield to see the various parts of his armor and battle attire in detail. It’s great fun to watch them mow down enemy soldiers with their impenetrable wall of spears.
