Steam table cleaning

One way to ensure that the food you serve stays hot is to use a steam table in the kitchen. The dishes are placed on the steam table trays, and these trays are then placed on the steam table. The steam generated by the equipment keeps the food hot and ready to serve. It also keeps food fresh and safe to eat. Because it contains food, the kitchen manager must clean the steam table regularly, and the usual schedule for cleaning the steam table is after the end of the service period.

Here are the proper steps on how to clean your steam table.

As soon as the serving period is over, the kitchen attendant should transfer any leftover food from the steam table trays to their respective food containers and then to the refrigerator. In this way, food remains will not be contaminated by dirty water or detergent.

After this step, the kitchen helper could turn off the steam table machine. This is done to prevent mishaps or accidents from occurring, one of which is electrocution. Once the machine is off, you could drain the water from the steam wells before cleaning the machine. This will make cleaning the machine safer and easier to clean.

Using a hand brush dipped in hot water, apply a small amount of detergent to the brush. Don’t use too much detergent though, as it will make rinsing much more difficult. Also, money will only be wasted. Next, the kitchen helper has to brush all the sides as well as all the surfaces of the steam table, making sure to get into the corners as well. He must thoroughly scrub and wash the top of the table, as well as the top and front. The hood and sides must also be scrubbed and washed.

If there are food particles stuck to the steam table, the kitchen helper can use a scraper to scrape off the food debris. After this, she could rinse it with hot water. She has to make sure that she has removed any traces of dirty liquid, especially detergent, before drying it. She also has to make sure it doesn’t smell like detergent.

For limescale steam tables, the kitchen helper has to descale them. The first step in descaling is to fill the steam wells with water before adding a cleaning agent that can remove scale. After this, you could turn on the machine to heat the water and cleaning agent. You should leave the machine running until the scale is completely removed before turning the machine off and then rinsing it.

For hard-to-remove limescale buildup, the kitchen attendant can gently scrub the area with a scouring pad. He has to make sure that he has removed all traces of lime buildup. Once this is done, he can turn off the steam before draining the water and cleaning agent. After this step, the kitchen helper should rinse it with hot water, making sure any traces of dirty liquid and detergent are removed. After all traces of dirty liquid and detergent are completely removed, the kitchen helper can wipe the machine with a clean soft cloth until dry.

Lastly, you need to make sure that no traces of odors from cleaning agents remain on the steam table.
