Why come to the Outer Banks?

The wonderful islands of the Outer Banks provide some amazing vacation destinations. The many unique towns that run along these narrow strips of sand will make your vacation unforgettable. Once you cross the bridge you will realize that you have arrived in paradise. From the northern tip bordering Virginia to Ocracoke Island, accessible only by ferry, the diversity is truly impressive.

Many people make a must stop to see the wild mustangs of the Outer Banks. The horses are protected in sanctuaries in Corolla and Ocracoke. These mustangs which are believed to have been brought here early along with the settlers have amazingly survived the harsh conditions of the island. The horses are believed to be direct descendants of the Spanish Mustangs brought by the first settlers.

Another must-see is the Wright Brothers Monument in Kill Devil Hills. What more can be said about the change that two brothers from Ohio made in the world. This is truly a must see to take a minute and appreciate the accomplishment which was aided by the prevailing winds from the Outer Banks.

A local state park that can be seen from the road but must be stopped to feel the full effect is Jockey’s Ridge State Park. This state park is the largest sand dune on the east coast. The total height is always changing depending on the winds. It is never the same place twice. It is a place that I would recommend visiting whenever you visit the Outer Banks. The view and the tranquility are worth every minute you are here.

The Outer Banks, in addition to these few vacation ideas, is full of restaurants, art galleries, and many local shops that add flavor to the islands. You definitely want to take a trip to the Outer Banks if you have never done it. The abundance of things to do and places to see make for satisfying vacations year after year.
