Wild World Of History Review

Wild World Of History

Home school moms were eager for a history curriculum that was effective and engaging, but didn’t require research and cobbling together multiple sources. They wanted history lessons that were complete so their kids could pass standardized exams and get into college, but they also want to make sure there’s room for fun. In response, Larry Schweikart created the Wild World Of History.

The course begins by examining key ideas from 800 to 1800 that helped shape history, including monarchies, common law, private property, and the scientific revolution. It then covers the story of the United States, tracing our country’s formation and growth. Schweikart presents these topics in lively lectures that feature a variety of interesting props and visual aids. His presentations are designed to be seen in one sitting, but they’re short enough to allow students to break the course up into smaller segments if they prefer.

He concludes with a look at the current state of the world. This includes a discussion of global conflicts and power struggles, and an examination of the rise of ideologies like capitalism and communism. The course also explores the development of the Internet and how it has changed our daily lives.

As with most history courses, this one is not neutral. It reflects the opinions of its creator, Professor Larry Schweikart. For example, he repeatedly rejects the Southern States’ justifications for the Civil War based on states’ rights. He also rejects the idea that there is a single “truth” for all people and instead views historical events as a constantly evolving, negotiated narrative shaped by the interpretive biases of each individual historian.

Wild World Of History Review

This is a compelling approach to American history, but it’s important for parents to understand that Schweikart doesn’t pretend to be neutral. He avoids neutrality more than most history teachers, but that doesn’t mean that he ignores controversial issues. The course is not intended to be a comprehensive survey of the world’s history, but it does provide a good overview of the major events and significant figures in US and world history.

This course is not available on DVD, but it is offered as a series of videos on the internet. In addition to the video lectures, the curriculum includes a student book and downloadable PDFs with maps and slides. It is used by homeschoolers and provides a year of credit in three subjects: American History, English (literature and composition) and Bible. The textbook is available from Amazon and other online retailers. It is also used by traditional public and private schools. It is Bible-based and emphasizes spiritual issues arising from American history. Students who enroll in the program will receive a certificate of completion. In the wild world of history, there are mysteries waiting to be unraveled. Ancient civilizations like the Egyptians and the Mayans leave behind enigmatic symbols and structures that continue to captivate our imagination. Archaeologists and historians tirelessly work to decipher these puzzles, seeking to unlock the secrets of the past and gain a deeper understanding of our shared heritage.
