Bajaj Platina – A solid offering from Bajaj

Bajaj two-wheelers have always been popular in India ever since the company launched the ubiquitous scooters that dominated the country’s roads in the second half of the 20th century.

Changing times brought more style and better technology in the form of motorcycles. Bajaj quickly adapted to this trend, teaming up with Kawasaki to introduce the KB100 in 1996. Other models were released later in the 1990s. Discover, Pulsar, Wind, and more recently Platina have been solid names over the years.

Making its entrance in 2006, the Platina sports a 100cc engine and was primarily targeted as a bike for those seeking a vehicle that is reliable yet affordable. Priced between Rs.37000 to Rs.39000, ex-showroom, it is the least expensive motorcycle from Bajaj.

A 4-stroke engine that had been in service on the CT 100 is offered. That means the performance figures for both bikes are identical. With a constant mesh type transmission, the engine here produces 8.2 BHP with Digital CDI and Trics III technology. Ride quality is taken care of by the hydraulic telescopic type SNS suspension. The 1275mm wheelbase along with drum brakes provide driving stability, making for a stable ride. The advantage of this is a bike that is ideal for the difficult rush hour traffic and stop-start conditions of city riding.

The economy factor is well taken care of. The fuel tank has a capacity of 13 liters but may require less filling and that’s good news for those looking for a frugal trip. The company announces 80 km pl, which could be translated into about 65-70 in real conditions.

The Platina, despite its lower price, gives the impression of being a premium segment motorcycle. The use of chrome and a fluid design along with a stylish heat shield give it a refreshing look. Also, the alloy wheels make the bike look sporty. Exterior color options include Black, plus a hybrid color mix of Maroon Black and Fire Red.

However, the Bajaj Platina is a deal that can qualify as value for money, overall. The engine, given its specs, may seem underpowered and the build is at its price. But the positives far outweigh the shortcomings. What the buyer can expect is aggressive pricing, of course. Extending the economy angle is the promise of low running costs and, most importantly, phenomenal mileage.

A major offering from leading two-wheeler manufacturers, the Bajaj Platina is one to look at as well as own.
