Cheap and Entertaining Craft Ideas for Kids: How to Make a Homemade Guitar

Often times, it is quite difficult to keep your child entertained for a period of time if he is not interested in the activity that he is participating in. To keep your child’s attention, you will need to have a fun and interesting project that not only captures their attention, but also requires them to focus on the task at hand. The best projects are those that allow adults to participate, supervise, and help when needed. One of those projects that you are sure to indulge in is making a homemade guitar. Read on for the necessary items and instructions on how easy it is to do.

Here is a list of what you will need:

Box with lid (a shoe box is perfect)

Cardboard tube

Pair of scissors

Headband

Long elastic bands

Two pencils

Foil

Art accessories

Here’s how to make your child’s guitar:

1 – Cut a hole in the lid of the box leaving a strip of about 5 cm on the sides and 3 cm at the top and bottom. Then, on each side of the original hole, cut two thinner slots the same length as the first.

2 – Make a hole in one end of the box big enough for the cardboard roll to pass through.

3 – Cover the cardboard roll with aluminum foil and place it through the hole in the box, then secure it in place with masking tape.

4 – Tape the lid to the box and then cover it with aluminum foil. Cut the aluminum foil from the holes in the lid.

5 – Place elastic bands from one end to the other of the box. To produce a better sound, wrap the pencils in aluminum foil and place them under all the rubber bands at each end of the box. To create different sounds with each string, use elastics of different sizes and lengths or wrap some tighter than others.

6 – Decorate your guitar with paint, stickers, magazine cutouts or any other paraphernalia you want.

By following these six easy steps, your child will have his or her own homemade guitar! Your child will be able to produce unique sounds and will come to appreciate music even more. Who knows, they might even want to pick up the real thing after playing their new creation!
