Things older people do to enjoy life

What do you think most older people do for fun? Well that may be a long list with so many but I’m sure it would be fun. Considering that most older people grew up in an era that didn’t need technology or a lot of people to have fun. I want to see some of the paths of those who came before us and even reflect with those who are older people. I like to call them the young at heart.

One thing that remains the same is the health of most baby boomers. I have always wondered what his secret to a healthy and enjoyable life was and talking to some older people I have discovered some of those things.

One of the things that most seniors say keeps them active is music. The music over the years was filled with various dance steps that are still enjoyed by most to this day. I can remember seeing aunts and uncles at weddings, birthday celebrations and when the music plays they are up and on the dance floor “cutting a rug” as they call it. Music and dancing were merely a means of getting the exercise they needed while having fun.

Some older people even enjoy the everyday natural aspect of life. Fishing, hiking and gardening are some of the things they enjoy the most. You see them even in every movie or TV show that comes out. Someone in the park walking and a young man collides with them. I’m sure you’ve seen the water scenes and notice two older men in the background in a small boat with fishing poles waiting for a catch. To date, more and more older women enjoy simply getting out and dirty in the garden. There’s nothing like peace of mind when it comes to living a stress-free life.

I don’t remember seeing people of my generation who could just enjoy the simple things like fishing, hiking, or even gardening. Those things are old school for my generation.

More and more older people are starting to keep a diary. I remember clips showing people writing letters in old movies showing how everyone used to communicate with each other and wait for the letter to come in the mail. I didn’t realize that it helped calligraphy and helped stimulate the thoughts in our heads to express what we felt. In this age we send emails and text messages. There is no communication outside of that.

There are also some senior citizens who enjoy technology and learn to use its different forms. The feelings during the tech boom for most seniors was that they didn’t understand any of it, however over time it all changes with a new appreciation for it.

One of the last things I have seen in most seniors is their love of outdoor games and sports. I’ve seen more seniors playing “Hopscotch and Kick Ball” in recent months than since I was a kid in the 1980s. I guess it’s another great way to enjoy the outdoors and keep your heart rate up.

Perhaps everyone can take a cue from that book when it comes to enjoying life and making every moment count.
