Coronado Island Beaches 101

There are plenty of beaches to visit throughout beautiful San Diego, and Coronado Island has five of its own. Everyone is a little different on this little island-peninsula, so choose the one that’s best for you and your family.

Center Beach: Coronado’s main municipal beach is located just above the famous Hotel del Coronado. This is a great place for a day at the beach with the family, as there are restrooms, showers, and ample parking available. Admission and parking are free, but places can get quite crowded, so it’s always better to arrive earlier than later in the day.

Dog Beach: Located in the northernmost part of the peninsula, right next to the Naval Base, this area is ideal for you and your pets to have fun in the sand. The tides are normally minimal and the water is quite shallow, making it a great area for your dog to get used to the water. There’s even a fountain with a hose at the entrance so you can rinse off the sand. There are many stations with dumpsters and doggie bags.

Glorietta Bay Beach: This area has some of the best San Diego views available. A small and simple beach area, the waves are good for learning and the fire pits are great for gatherings.

Silver Strand State Beach: This is a beautiful stretch of beach between the southern tip of Coronado and mainland San Diego. It is located about 4.5 miles south of Coronado Village, near Loews Coronado Bay Resort. This thread is complete with toilets, showers, lifeguards and a picnic area. The only downside is that it’s a state park, so admission is $8.

Ferry landing market: This area is almost always packed with tourists and locals, as the market has a small beach area that adjoins lots of little souvenir stalls, shops, and restaurants. It is adjacent to the fishing and ferry dock and is complete with a small grassy lawn; great excitement and a great view.
